Brazil: Orange production estimated to increase by 6.5%

The National Association of Exporters of Citrus Juices, CitrusBR, estimated that the total production of oranges in the citrus belt of São Paulo and Minas Triangle (in the state of Minas Gerais) during the 2014/2015 season could be 6.5% higher than in the previous season.

This increase translates into a total of 308,8 million boxes, each one of 40.8 kilos; 258 million of which would be used for the processing industry.

According to the CitrusBR, the 6.5% increase in production is the result of the orchards' 9.4% increase in productivity and the 2.6% decrease in the amount of plants (from 157 million plants to 152,9 million).
