France pays almost 0.90 Euro for Spanish Piel de Sapo melons

France was the European country paying the best prices for Spanish Piel de Sapo melons up to the month of September, while Estonia paid the lowest. Overall Piel de Sapo exports continue to increase.

In the French department of Charente, Spanish Piel de Sapo melons reached a price of almost 0.90 Euro per kilo. French operators paid an average of 0.88 Euro/kilo, higher than the average paid in Spain, which was of 0.71 Euro/kilo, according to Fepex.

The price of Piel de Sapo melons exported by Spain during the first nine months of the year increased by around 18% in Europe, from 0.60 Euro/kilo last year to 0.71 in 2013.

Nevertheless, Eurostat reminded that the price paid for Piel de Sapo melons outside of the EU was of almost 1 Euro per kilo, which proves that there is still potential for growth.

Behind France, which paid 0.88 Euro/kilo, the best prices were paid by Belgium (0.80 Euro/kilo), Italy (0.78 Euro/kilo) and Austria (0.76). Estonia was the country paying the worst prices, with an average of a little over 0.40 Euro per kilo.
