Despite unfavourable weather
Germany: Soft fruit harvest in Baden-Württemberg remains same
Unfavourable weather conditions during the blooming period, a late start to the season and regional damage due to flooding and hail: after the previous season had already been unfavourable, the conditions in 2013 were not optimal for the berry production in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, reports the German website Proplanta.de.
In total the harvest volume is at around the same level as last year, at 7,946 tonnes, reports the Bureau of Statistics of the state based on previous figures. Around a third of the cultivated berries (2,635 tonnes) consisted of red (and white) berries, which means their harvest amount has increased by 29 percent compared to 2012. The cultivation of bush berries also grew by 29 percent to 818 tonnes. At 1,310 tonnes there was little change in the harvest amount of raspberries. The harvest of blackcurrants dropped this year to 2,329 tonnes, around a fifth lower than in 2012. 359 tonnes (+4 percent) of brambles were grown, and blueberries amounted to 234 tonnes (-22 percent).
