160 million Euro investment this year

Lidl continues to grow in Spain

The supermarket chain Lidl announced that it will invest 160 million Euro in Spain this year; 25% more than the 120 million Euro originally planned. The company is also strengthening its presence in the country, this week, with the simultaneous opening of three new supermarkets in the towns of Vic, Ferrol and Tomelloso.

This triple inauguration entails a total investment of 5 million Euro and the creation of 20 direct jobs. So far in 2013, a total of 14 inaugurations have taken place.

The most noteworthy operations for Lidl this year were the inauguration in July of the expansion of Montcada i Reixac's platform and the start in the construction of a new logistics platform in Lorquí, Murcia.

This new logistic infrastructure, to be inaugurated in 2014, will be Lidl's ninth on Spanish soil. It will have a surface of 40,000 m² and give employment to 200 people as soon as it is fully operational.

Lidl is also in the process of modernising and transforming more than 70 of its oldest establishments. The goal is to adapt them to the chain's new image standards, make them more energy-efficient and promote the company's range of fresh products to make shopping at Lidl a more rewarding experience.
