France: Brand 'Les paysans Rougeline' on the market
The period around 1990 was a restless one for the French producers of fruits and vegetables. During this period they eventually united in order to achieve a stronger market position. Gilles Bertrandias, currently general manager at Rougeline, has been with the company for over 15 years. Under the Les paysans Rougeline brand, the company’s produce is distributed even more effectively. Rougeline is the market leader in strawberries and tomatoes, but also produces cucumbers, lettuce, etc. The producers remain united at Rougeline.
Gilles Bertrandias recently addressed the many participants during a meeting in Villeneuve-sur-Lot. "In a tough economic climate, Rougeline has grown by 270 hectares of greenhouse construction, spread over three areas of production, 70,000 tonnes of fresh fruit and vegetables per year and 100 million in sales."
In a market with strong competition from import from the south, Rougeline wins a significant share by adapting to market developments. Additionally, Rougeline manages to stand out by growing environmentally friendly and by selling organic produce.
