Italy: Latest FruitImprese data on Italian foreign trade

According to the latest data processed by FruitImprese, the period between January and August 2013 confirms the trend of the last few months as regards the import/export of fresh produce.

There is a 11.2% decrease in volumes exported and an increase in imports (+6.5%) with respect to the same period in 2012. The sign is positive in both cases for what concerns value. The balance is of around €520 million (-12.7%).

Overall, between January and August, Italian companies exported 2.37 tonnes of produce for a total value of little over €2.6 billion (+8.2%).

Exports of vegetables (-2.4%) and fresh fruit (-17.4%) are not doing so well, whereas citrus fruit (+0.8%) and dried fruit (+3.7%) are on the rise. In terms of value, the sign is positive for all sectors: vegetables +13.8%, citrus fruit +32.6%, fresh fruit +3.4% and dried fruit +4.6%.

As regards imports, Italy bought around 2.26 million tonnes of produce abroad for a total value of €2.10 billion (+15.1%).

As regards the single sectors, citrus fruit is on the rise (+8.8%), just like vegetables (+5.1%), fresh fruit (+10.9%) and tropical fruit (+5.9%), whereas dried fruit has registered a slight decrease (-2.1%). The sign was positive for all sectors in terms of value.
