American food inspectors check Swiss producer

It will be the fourth visit in three years: the food inspectors of the American government bureau Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have again plans to visit
Switzerland, as announced on the Swiss website handelszeitung.ch. The FDA officials follow carefully in the direction of the American 'Food Modernization Act'. This has been prepared in order to be able to fight organic terrorism. Potentially life threatening food is as a result not to be stopped at the American border, but already in the country of origin. In the case of Switzerland this is, amongst others, in connection with pickled and tinned vegetables.

The American government bureau is looking at eight Swiss companies. Two of which are heard about are Hügli and Hero. Both companies, however, are not prepared to comment. Primarily products such as canned and pickled vegetables, food supplements and 'to be kept' products, which are directly or indirectly destined for the American market, are involved.

The visit to the Swiss producers has been planned for the spring of 2014. Up to then changes to the list of companies may still be made, insiders say. Where the FDA officials will really look, remains a secret. There is no official confirmation of the companies mentioned. It is. however, beyond doubt, that food controls will be carried out in Switzerland.
