Spain: Planasa presents new certified peach varieties

The Plagold 22 peach, the Zincal 30 nectarine and the Planasol 50 platerine, of Planasa's Sweet range, have been very positively evaluated by IRTA at the latest stone fruit workshops organised on 24 October in Spain.

One of the most anticipated moments of the event was the presentation of several peach, nectarine, flat peach and platerine varieties by specialist Ignasi Iglesias. The meeting was attended by fruit growers, trading companies, ADV and cooperative technicians, commercial agents and other professionals of the sector.

The evaluation of the varieties was as follows:

- Plagold 22 SWEET: new variety. Matures 4-6 days before the Summer Rich; noteworthy for its great potential in terms of calibre; round fruit, attractive, with a not very velvety skin; clingstone and sweet in flavour; slightly fibrous and of good quality; colouring covering most of the fruit; tree of medium vigour.

- Zincal 30 SWEET: new variety. Matures a week after the Diamond Ray and Luciana; early colouring; good calibres and extreme firmness make it difficult to determine harvest period; intense colouring covering the entire fruit; fruit of an attractive, round, symmetrical shape, with small lenticels; firm, crunchy and sweet pulp; averagely aromatic; with a slight fibrous texture when ripe and a half-clung stone; tree of medium vigour.

 - Planasol 50 SWEET: new variety. Harvest period similar to that of the Platimoon; vigorous tree with flowering of medium intensity; good calibre fruit; colour covering 80-100% and good pistilar closing, almost perfect; sweet, juicy, aromatic pulp with a very good flavour.

The three varieties are part of Planasa's new Sweet range, characterised by always offering a high Brix content.
