"It was a difficult year meteorologically speaking, with a major drought and an intense heat wave since early summer and a fairly dry winter. Nevertheless, we achieved exporting bigger volumes than last year. In this campaign, Tucumán exported 276,000 tons, around 4 or 5 percent more than last year," said Walter Ojeda from Citrus San Miguel.
In this sense, he explained, they’ve been growing gradually, between 3 and 5 percent per year, for the last five years.
"Tucumán, due to its production, has a strong processing industry and the rest is sold as fresh fruit. In recent times there has been much work done to create awareness about what the market needs and there has been a major improvement on the product’s quality."
Ojeda said it was too early to make predictions about next year. “All these months will be very important regarding the evolution of the plant."
It is worth noting that 2014 is expected to be quite wet.
