"Prices Chinese ginger trebled and no end in sight yet."

The Chinese ginger season is slowly coming to an end with strongly increased selling prices, just in the last few weeks by about 50%. "At the start of 2013 it was expected, that after a year of over-supply, there would be a scarcity because more than 30% less ginger was grown. Prices were expected to double, but at the moment they have trebled and apparently the end is not yet in sight," Rob de Jong of BR Fresh Exotics says.

Last week Rob was in China in order to inspect the present stock and be present at the new harvesting. "Quality wise we expect to be able to work well during the remainder of the season. Our 40-footers with ginger still regularly arrive at Rotterdam. Also for the new season we expect the good quality of this season to be matched as a minimum."
