Italy: An orange campaign with small grades

"As Freshfel data reports, the Italian 2013/14 citrus fruit campaign should go back to normal levels after last year's weather problems," commented Salvo Laudani (in the photo), marketing director for Oranfrizer.

"As regards oranges, there are a lot of small grades. In addition, quite a bit of produce was damaged by the strong winds in spring."

"There is a 10% increase in the production of lemons, which have good grades despite some damage cause by wind."

"The tangerine and clementine seasons look good too, with 10-15% and 10% more produce respectively. Both have satisfactory weights and quality."

"Overall, the citrus fruit production is better than 2012, in line with other areas in the Mediterranean. Quality-wise, we will have to select fruits carefully, which in turn means a lot of produce will be sent to the processing industry."
