For years, Novamont preferred to avoid introducing bio-degradable mulching films on the market, as it did not have natural and bio-degradable UV stabilizers such as polymer matrix, essential to guarantee a minimum amount of time on fields for this type of products. The company did not think that using the same additives used for non-bio-degradable mulching films would be sustainable, as there would have been accumulating risks. It was therefore decided to concentrate on the study of natural substances from test crops.
After years of hard work, Novamont is proud to present the result of its research: a transparent mulching film which is resistant to UV radiations thanks to bio-degradable natural substances that do not alter the product or its performance.
"The case of transparent mulching films that are stable against UV radiations and completely bio-degradable is a demonstration of what Novamont considers bio-economy i.e. finding effective and original technical solutions from integrated biorefineries that safeguard the quality of water, air and soil whilst preventing accumulation," stressed Catia Bastioli, CEO of Novamont.
