Aldi keeps Lidl at bay in Germany

According to a message in the German magazine Focus, in Germany Aldi lies above competitor Lidl. The 3300 German Lidl branches achieved in fiscal year 2012/2013, which ended in late February, a total turnover of around 18 billion. That is a rise of 2% in comparison to the previous year. Aldi Nord in 2012 came to 11.5 million euro, and sister company Aldi Süd had a turnover of around 15 million euro which represents an increase of 6%. Together Aldi achieved a turnover of 26.5 billion euros.

In two years, the profits of Aldi Süd, which presently operates 1800 branches, has increased by 1.5 million euro and has risen higher than industry experts had predicted. Sister company Aldi Nord's turnover in her 2440 branches in 2013 is significantly lower than in 2012, due to Aldi Nord's 3 million euro investment in modernising her 5000 supermarkets in Europe.
