Dirck Smits van Oyen, Director Tolsma Ukraine LLC, has lived in the Ukraine for more than 10 years and has represented the Ukrainian market for Tolsma for four years. "There are many opportunities in this market. Ukraine is the fifth potato producing country in the world and there are still far too few storage possibilities here. As a result a large part of the harvest is lost. Recently we notice that growers are investing more and more and spend money for new techniques, such as storage systems. Consumers are demanding more all the time and expect a good quality of products. Therefore growers will invest more in this kind of thing automatically. The first thing to think of is storage, but there is also a growing interest in transport and sorting systems. Also investment in the production of processed fruit and vegetables, such as chips, increases. Tolsma have supplied storage techniques to the biggest potato company in Ukraine Mriya, which annually grow potatoes on
5,000 HA. We also have a lot of smaller customers with a few hundred HA of potatoes, onions and carrots, who all invest in the quality of their product from field to table with the assistance of Dutch machines and techniques."

According to Dirck the agrarian sector in Ukraine is one of the sectors growing consistently. "Ukraine is made for agriculture. There is 35% of black soil and the potential for growing various products in enormous. There is also economic growth and we see beautiful opportunities in the future."
