Plyasa, a firm from Extremadura, Spain, devoted to the growing, production and commercialisation of corn, sells more than 12 million cobs per year and is a leading provider of the main European distribution chains.
The firm is about to increase its exporting capacity thanks to a new horticultural packing plant, explains the firm in a press release.
The new facilities, located in Valverde de Leganés, in the province of Badajoz, will increase the production volume, which had already reached its maximum.
The company currently exports to more than 15 nations, especially to the Nordic countries and the UK, although exports to emerging markets, such as Russia and other Eastern European countries, keep rising "year after year."
The company grows approximately 800 hectares of sweet corn, 500 of them in Extremadura and the rest in Seville and the Moroccan city of Agadir.
The organisational integration of the firm allows for full control in all stages, from planting to commercialisation, and employs 150 people, largely local workers.
The local government's Councillor of Agriculture, José Miguel Echávarri, considers that Plyasa is the best example of how "innovation and the opening to new markets must mark the way forward for the agri-food sector and lay the foundations for Extremadura's agriculture in the 21st century."
