"Marcel Schreinemachers: "Rising demand, even in winter"

Egyptian strawberry supply breaks loose early at Frankort & Koning

On Thursday last week the first Egyptian strawberries arrived at Frankort & Koning. "We have had ideal growing circumstances at our own product locations," says Marcel Schreinemachers, who is responsible for the Egyptian import. "This means we had well coloured and tasty strawberries in a reasonably early stadium. That's why we're earlier than usual."

Frankort works with its own people in Egypt, which means the desired quality demands can be met at the source. "At the moment we receive supplies twice a week and from week 48 the supply will be intensified. Two days after harvest we have the strawberries here." At the moment all strawberries are packaged in 10x250 grammes. The strawberries are packaged in a flat dish which ensures optimal presentation. According to Marcel Schreinmachers there is an increasing consumer demand for strawberries, even in the winter.
