Canada: Prince Edward Island Potato Board meeting to get glimpse of future

Delegates attending the annual general meeting of the P.E.I. Potato Board will get a look at the big picture when consulting futurist Bob Treadway gives his 20/20 Foresight-Making Informed Decisions for the Future presentation.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Market and industry Services Branch in Charlottetown is bringing Treadway in to give potato growers some insight on what the market holds.

Treadway is one of a handful of speakers who will cover everything from crop yield and production numbers to food safety and changes at the retail level at the Nov. 16 gathering in Charlottetown.

As a consultant and foresight advisor, Treadway has given large corporations, trade associations and other clients the lowdown on what is just over the horizon for their business and a strategy to succeed.

He will speak over the lunch hour 12-1:30pm at the Delta Hotel.

Among the areas Bob will cover in his presentation:

  • How global demand is creating a new plateau for food production and pressure for higher land values.
  • How the US consumer will behave in the next 5 years.
  • Examples of farming operations that are using innovation, differentiation, and new layers of technology to become "future-proof."
