China: Xinjiang Uygur fruits promoted in Shanghai Carrefour

Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in China's Northwest is hosting a food festival in the supermarkets of Shanghai, offering residents more choices in agricultural products.

The festival has been organised by the Xinjiang Commerce Department and commenced last weekend. There are 15 items being promoted in total, most of which are fruits, such as melons, walnuts, raisins and pears.

The fruits are being promoted in the city's Carrefour outlets over the week. They have been sourced directly from farmers without the involvement of middlemen, with the result that they are around 15% cheaper than when sold in other Shanghai shops.
