USDA expands insurance for blueberry growers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Risk Management Agency recently announced that availability of Multi-Peril Crop Insurance for blueberries in the 2013 crop year has been expanded in Benton, Franklin, Grant, Walla Walla and Yakima counties.

Farmers are encouraged to visit soon with their crop insurance agent to learn the details for the 2013 crop year, according to a news release. Private insurance companies and agents sell and provide federal crop insurance policies. The crop insurance sales closing date is Nov. 20 for apple, blueberry, actual revenue history cherry pilot, cranberry, grape, pear and stonefruit crops. A list of crop insurance agents is available at all USDA Service Centers or at www3.rma.usda.gov/tools/agents.
