"Netherlands: "Good demand for mushrooms: shortage on the oyster mushroom market"

The sales of mushrooms has been going well for the past month. The inferior compost has been causing a decrease in production of ten to twenty percent for the growers for the last few weeks, and thanks to deals in foreign supermarkets, the price is at a reasonable level. "We are now at a sales price of 1.50/1.60 Euro for white mushrooms, and that's about average for this time of year," says Tonny Hooijmans of Oke Trading.

The special mushroom varieties are also selling well. "The market for oyster mushrooms is very scarce, with a much lower production. Chestnut mushrooms are also selling well, and the Shiitake market is normal," says Tonny. The mushroom trader expects a stable market for the coming weeks. "The demand is quite wide, but mainly the German retailers have bought a lot of mushrooms. The supply my increase a little in the next few weeks."
