US: Florida gets $4.4 million USDA grants

Florida Agriculture Commissioner announced last week more than $4.4 million worth of grants to growers and researchers in the state. The grants are part of the USDA's Speciality Crop Block Grant Program.

Amongst the recipients are Florida Agriculture in the Classroom; Florida Certified Organic Growers and Consumers; Florida Nursery, Growers, and Landscape Association; Florida Specialty Crop Foundation; Florida Tomato Committee; and the University of Florida.

“Through the Specialty Crop Block Grants, we are able to foster creativity and innovation in Florida agriculture,” Putnam stated in a release. “These projects will, in turn, support the growth of agriculture industry, creating job opportunities for Floridians.”
