Netherlands: Processing potatoes with patented razor

Through the years, potato company Finis has gained a lot of expertise in processing potatoes. According to Ton van Raaij: “The process is a precise one, a delicate one. It needs skill. On today’s market, where shelf life and high demands are crucial, it’s not easy to improve the practice of pealing.”

“We took a careful look at current solutions. And we asked ourselves: what kind of tool do we use that is delicate enough to use on potatoes? The answer was staring us in the face: razors.”

“So we found inspiration with a patented razor head that has three blades,” says Van Raaij. “Based on this principle we designed a pealing system with several independent blades, the KGSCH system. This allows us to meet requirements in shelf life and production capacity.”

And Finis isn’t done yet. The company is now expanding the idea in new flexible, hygienic alternatives for existing processing machines.
