Mexico supports avocado growers

Acaxochitlán avocado growers received 900,000 pesos support, granted within the Productive Options program of the Secretariat for Development(SEDESOL), Hidalgo delegation.

It was delivered directly to 48 avocado farmers and their families who waited three years for this opportunity so as to grow as producers.

Nicandro Saavedra Sevilla, Productive Options coordinator, said: "This resource is not money, it is an opportunity to improve their families as long as the project requires it. In three months we should see results, but only their tenacity
will reward them with more resources."

Erick Arnulfo Sosa, president of the municipality, congratulated the producers, because "even Sedesol trusted the plan and now we see that it is a reality."

Productive Options seeks to help people whose income is below the poverty line. To be able to conduct this type of support, the program Oportunities joins the cause, so as to encourage health, education, nutrition and income generation.

In the town of Zoctitla they benefited from four projects of 225,000 pesos that will house more than ten producers each, who will be responsible for purchasing 10,000 Hass avocado plants, which will be planted in their respective lands.

The project includes technical support to assist agricultural producers to care for their plants and what the plants generate. Also along with social control, which will verify the proper use of resources and the care for the results they generate.

In the state, through a Co-financing Fund, 67 projects have been supported, with federal aid for more than 21 million pesos, with a direct benefit for 490 people.
