Fruit harvest Turkey +6%
The Turkish statistical institute Turkstat on 31 August announced the results of the fruit harvest estimate. According to these data the Turkish fruit harvest of 2012 would amount to 18,3 million tons. This is 6,4% more than the fruit harvest of last year and the largest increase of all agrarian products.
Grapes, the most important fruit in the Turkish fruit cultivation, did not contribute to the increase of the total harvest in 2012. According to first estimates the harvest total of grapes this year is 4,28 million tons. This is a slightly smaller harvest than last year. As a result the share of grapes of the fruit harvest decreases to 23 percent.
There are hardly any kinds of fruit, of which a smaller harvest is expected in 2012 than last year. The citrus harvest with 3,61 million tons will be approximately the same as in 2011. The harvest of top fruit will with a total of 6,68 million tons be about 12 percent larger than last year. But also with stone fruit a clear increase is expected for the second year in a row. In total the estimates of a stone fruit harvest are 2,35 million tons. That is 11 percent more than last year.
