Peru: Exotic fruits have great potential in Europe
During the fourth edition of Expoalimentaria 2012, Fred Kloen, commercial director of OTC (The Netherlands), one of the main European importers of organic products, pointed out that the Peruvian products which had the greatest potential in the British market would be: organic exotic fruits (sacha inchi, camu camu, aguaymanto; among others) and papayas.
He also said that the European Union, despite the economic crisis, would continue to increase its imports of organic products, with the German market leading imports, followed by France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Denmark and Sweden.
He argued that the production and export of these products in Latin America would double in the medium term, due to an increase in demand and new consumption trends.
He addressed Peruvian producers during his presentation at the Fifth International Convention of Organic Products, recommending them to have integrity for the successful production of organic crops, meeting all the quality standards, controlling waste and understanding their principles.
