Costa Rica: Pineapple exports growing by almost 9%

Agricultural exports from Costa Rica grew by 1.7% during the first eight months of 2012, according to statistics from the commercial promotion agency PROCOMER.

Pineapple and palm shipments, among other products, registered sharp increases, due in part to severe drops in banana exports.

According to data from PROCOMER, pineapple exports grew by 8.4%, reaching a value of US$ 528.1 million, while banana exports fell by 11%, with a value of US$ 453 million. Other products, such as melons, also experienced drops.

Costa Rica's main market is North America, with 42.3% of all exports, followed by the European Union, with 18.1%.
