Italy: New 'Pallavicino' variety of white garlic introduced

A new variety of Italian garlic Bianco Piacentino (white garlic from the area of Piacenza, Italy), called Pallavicino, has been introduced into the National Register of Varieties. The news was published in the Official Journal no. 178 and it is now quickly spreading among garlic producers and operators all over the world.

The variety Pallavicino is the result of a careful selection operated by the company A.Bi.Pi. from Monticelli d’Ongina (Piacenza, Italy), starting from the traditional local garlic, i.e. the Bianco Piacentino. "Our goal," explains Davide Cattadori, President of A.Bi.Pi., "is to guarantee the consumers about the origin of the product: in other words, we guarantee the traditional garlic variety which has been grown in our territory for years."

Davide Cattadori, President of A.Bi.Pi.

"We are happy and proud of the registration of the garlic Pallavicino in the National Register of Varieties: we have believed in this project from the very start, and now A.Bi.Pi. is counted among the few Italian companies to have achieved such a result." Mr. Cattadori also says: "The Italian Ministry has undoubtedly understood the quality and origin of our garlic. We hope this will give our territory one more good chance to get widely recognized and appreciated."
