Wilco de Boer, SFM Logistics:

"Netherlands: ´"we refuse to drive for less than the price´"

SFM Logistics was founded in March 2003 and is located in Bleiswijk, Netherlands. "We literally started up with nothing," says Wilco de Boer. "From the start, we have focused on the transport of conditioned goods to Germany (around Stuttgart / Regensburg). We still carry flowers and plants, but the emphasis is increasingly placed on agricultural products."

These days there is a fleet of thirteen trucks. Within two weeks we will have a new truck with front axle in operation and in December SFM wants to be one of the first carriers with a Euro 6 engine on the motorway. Wilco is not unhappy about the past year. "It is very difficult in the transport sector, but fortunately for the first half of the year we are in the black. Though last year a major client of ours went bankrupt, we have managed to win three quarters of sales back."

Yet we currently have a hiring freeze in the office. That is not because we can't afford to pay new people, but because it is uncertain what 2013 is going bring," says Wilco. "We work with experienced, Dutch drivers and also use several regular charters. We focus on allround transport, but refuse to drive for less than cost. That is unfortunately all too often done. "

"It is not easy for carriers to be on time leaving the Netherlands. We do everything to be on time, while customers do not always experienced this from larger carriers. Particularly our German customers appreciate this. They maybe pay a little more, but there also see their desired 'Pünktlichkeit' in return," said the carrier. He does not expect his specialization in northern Germany to widen. "The area is large enough. We try to strengthen the relationships with our regular customers."
