Top 5 fruits exported by Chile

According to information compiled by the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association, ASOEX, during the 2011-2012 season the total amount of fresh fruit exported reached 275,406,040 boxes, which means a 0.14% increase compared to the previous season, when the total number was of 275,033,507 boxes.

Analysing the various destination markets, the Far East is the one showing the greatest increase, with a 20.75% rise compared to the previous season, reaching 43,922,734 boxes of fresh Chilean fruits during the 2011-2012 season.

Table grapes lead the fresh fruit exports, reaching 106,020,009 boxes shipped. This figure shows a 3.21% fall compared to the 2010-2011 season, when the total number was of 109,539,223 boxes. 

Red apples came second in terms of total exported volumes with 36,701,205 boxes, that is, 12.31% less than what was shipped during the previous campaign, when 41,855,235 boxes were shipped.

Blueberries are the third most exported fruit. During the 2011-2012 season, a total of 23,384,785 boxes of these berries were exported, which shows a 2.16% increase compared to last season's figures, which reached 22,891,445 boxes.

In fourth place are kiwis, with 22,573,703 shipped boxes, a figure showing an 11.03% increase compared to the 2010-2011 season. Finally, in fifth place, we find cherries, with a total14,633,458 shipped boxes, which means a 26.56% growth compared to the previous campaign. 


Destinations

The main destination market for grapes is the United States, with 33,335,277 exported boxes to the East Coast and 10,343,593 boxes to the West Coast. The US is followed by Europe with 28,580,143 boxes of fresh grapes and the Far East with 20,032,871 boxes.

As regards red apples, the main market is Latin America, with 11,289,483 shipped boxes, followed by Europe with 9,288,989 boxes. Their third destination market is the United States, with 4,341,621 boxes shipped to the East Coast and 1,831,916 boxes to the West Coast.

Blueberries are mainly being shipped to the United States, with 11,582,102 exported boxes to the East Coast and 4,757,759 shipped to the West Coast.

Meanwhile, for kiwis, Europe is the place where this Chilean fruit is most popular. This season the Old Continent has received 10,961,967 boxes, followed by Latin America, with 3,732,554 boxes and the United States, with 1,783,701 boxes.

Finally, cherries have their main market in the Far East with 9,285,135 boxes, followed by the East Coast in the US, with 2,167,944 boxes and Europe with 1,388,341 boxes.
