Hans Steltenpool, Dutch Carrot Group:

"Netherlands: "I do not expect the carrot market to drastically change"

The prices on the carrot market have decreased in the last few weeks. According to Hans Steltenpool from the Dutch Carrot group, the prices which are currently at 10/12 cent, are not unusual for this time of year. It is noticeable that the carrots are coarser than last year. "We will have enough kilos arriving," says Hans.

As to the question of whether the size sorting is favourable for sale, the carrot merchant answers: "There is often demand for the type that is not available. However, I am feeling pretty positive about the weeks to come. There has already been export to the African countries and to Germany. I do not expect that the market will drastically change in the coming weeks. The weather is a deciding factor in the carrot market. The prices could suddenly shoot up if it freezes in October/November."
