The citrus season is about to begin and as Manuel Baides from Alquimia Fruits S.L. said, it is expected to be good for the sector. Some producing countries of South America suffered heavy frosts that reduced their export volumes, so a good start to the season is expected, as the markets are eager for clementines.
"In the case of Spain, it seems that we will have lower size fruit for the earliest varieties due to low rainfall in spring - summer. The lack of cold is not helping early fruit to have the ideal colour, but has for suga. It is believed that fruit quality will be high as fungi and other pathogens, without rainfall, do not grow so well and can't damage the skin of the citrus," Baides explains.
Satsumas will be received from the Iwasaky and Okistus varieties from week 37/38, Navelinas oranges from week 40 and clementines Gold Nules and Prenules also in week 38.
