"Italy: "We expect to handle 6 million kgs of grapes"

The Battaglio Group selects, imports and distributes a wide variety of fruits, including tropical, in Italy. FreshPlaza has interviewed the company's managers to ask about the table grape campaign.

FreshPlaza (FP) - What are the varieties currently on offer in your assortment?

Battaglio (B) - At this time, our offer includes the varieties Italia, Palieri, Red Globe and Victoria (with which we are in the closing phase of the campaign). Shortly we will also begin with the Pizzutella.

FP - What volumes are you planning to move in the campaign 2012/13?

B - So far, since the beginning of the campaign, we have handled 1,750,000 kgs of product and we have a program of approximately 6,000,000 kgs.

FP - What are your areas of production / supply for this product?

B - All our grapes come mainly from region Apulia (Italy), in particular from the Adelfia-Rutigliano and Massafra-Palagiano areas.

FP - What can you say about the rest of the campaign?

B - At the moment we find that the Russian and Eastern markets are very fought over, with unprofitable prices due to the presence of a competition that aims only at the lowest price. We work in a satisfactory manner with the domestic market, with particular attention to the retailers, and the overseas market, where we aim to grow over time, forging relationships with reliable partners.
