Spanish courgette more expensive in August

In the month of August, the difference between the price paid by consumers and the one received by growers and farmers has reduced significantly, with lower margins compared to last month, when the differentials recorded were higher.

However, comparing the margin with those from July, we find increases in some products. The most relevant are courgettes, rising from a 2.01 margin in July to 3.20 in August, and papayas, rising from 1.72 in July to a 2.94 margin in August. Other products which have increased their margins, to a lower extent, are: chard, green beans and red and green peppers.

This month, the prices for onions, leeks, chard, courgettes, carrots, red and green peppers and papayas do not cover production costs.
