Netherlands: Chinese delegation learn about Conference-pear chain

This week a Chinese delegation visited the Netherlands to learn about the entire chain of the Dutch Conference pear. The visit is an initiative of Frugi Venta, organised in cooperation with the NFO and co-financed by the Productschap Tuinbouw.

For years the Netherlands have been trying to obtain permission to export Conference pears, as well as other products to China. So far without success. In order to show the Chinese government which measures are taken to grow products, which satisfy all phytosanitary and food safety requirements, a Chinese delegation has been invited to come and see for themselves. The visit is a required part of the entry procedure.

(NFO), Henk Stigter (NVWA) and Adrie van den Berg (Boomkwekerij Verbeek)

The Chinese delegation, consisting of delegation leader Mrs.Sun, responsible for the issue of the import licences and Mrs.Zhou, phytosanitary specialist, during a period of a week visited companies representing all links in the chain. They were the guests of NVWA, a fruit dealer, a fruit grower, a fruit tree nursery, a cooling company, the national reference laboratory and the ministry of EL&I. This visit of the delegation was constantly accompanied by representatives of Frugi Venta, NFO
and NVWA.

The delegation was especially interested in the organisational structure of the supervising companies and the manner in which the fruit is harvested and dealt with.
