Nunhems' lettuce technical specialist, Gregorio Pérez, explains that "it is a variety offering plenty of advantages to consumers, as it has a very sweet flavour. Furthermore, it is also an early variety and slow in ripening, opening many possibilities regarding harvest times."
Within the same context, Gregorio Pérez highlights that the Thumper variety "presents an excellent behaviour against problems like tip-burn, as well as great resistance to mildew and lettuce aphid biotype 0, which is very important for producers," as it gives them security and saves them money on treatments.
"Thumper lettuce adapts very well to the conditions in Southern Spain, Catalonia, the East and Andalusia. This vegetable is mainly destined for the retail sector, since it is a product that requires very little manipulation before consumption," says Gregorio Pérez. The largest Thumper production area is in the Region of Murcia. Since it is a lettuce with a very pleasant taste, it is very popular. "Demand for it is good in all of Spain and can be produced mainly since mid-February to mid-June," pointed out Nunhems' technical specialist.
