"Netherlands: "Stone fruit is selling well, prices are less good"

The demand for stone fruit has been good in the past few weeks. "Due to the good weather there were large volumes arriving from Spain, but luckily the demand was at a good level. So there was no surplus," says an importer. "We can say that the Spanish stone fruit season has been good until now. We're happy with the quality. The only drawback was the low prices due to more supply."

"Due to the weather, the fruit has been selling well. So we can't complain about that. The season started with good prices and was variable after that. At the moment the prices are between 1.00 and 1.20. This time last year the market was comparable. Although it was hardly summer then. At the moment the consumption is at a good level."

The importer expects to receive volumes for the next three weeks. "The season should be finished in around a month. The supply is still coming from Northern Spain. Hopefully the demand will stay good and the prices will revive."
