Dutch waste policy the best in Europe

The Dutch waste policy is the best in the European Union. According to the European Commission in Brussels only Austria does as well at processing household waste.

The commission in Brussels presented a ranking for waste control on Tuesday. Austria and Holland are at the top with 39 points. Last of the 27 EU member states is Greece with only 3 points.

The commission judged the countries by, for instance, recycling waste and the amount of waste which is still just dumped, but also by breaking European laws.

Despite the good score, Brussels has one main point of criticism for Holland and Austria. The European Commission wants households to produce gradually less waste, despite the increasing consumption. But this development seems to be lacking in Holland and Austria. Slovenia for instance, which is in eleventh place, is doing very well in this area.
