Colombia exporting Tommy Atkins mangoes to Japan

The arrival of Tommy Atkins mangoes in Japan is the result of an initiative by small local producers who, meeting the phytosanitary standards and investing in hot steam treatment infrastructures, have eliminated fruit flies and made agro exports possible.

Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry authorised the hot steam quarantine treatment applied on Tommy Atkins mangoes, a fruit produced in Valle del Cauca, Colombia, and packed at Asoppitaya's plant in Bogota, hence allowing them entry into this Asian country. This is an important step forward for Colombia's agricultural industry, which has allowed exports since 24 July.
