Armenia: Huge growth in apricot exports

According to the results from the first half of 2012 Armenia has already exported 12, 130 tons of apricots against 7,300 tons exported during the whole of 2011, Mr. Sergo Karapetyan, the Minister of Agriculture stated at a press-conference last Thursday.

"We got a good crop of apricots this year. You can see that production volumes for apricots in the first half of the year were very high," - Mr. Karapetyan said, according to the information received from "ARKA", an Armenian agency of economic information.

He also emphasized, that in the period from January to June 2012 fruit processing companies have already bought 6,150 tons of apricots, while in 2011 only 2,800 tons were bought during the whole year.
 
"Harvesting is still in progress in high-mountain areas, and the final results will be higher," - the Minister remarked.

He also added that Armenia expects a very good crop of peaches and apples. The processes of purchase and export will be also well-organized.
