"Mexico: Plantain growers are threatened by the tropical storm "Ernesto"

The electrical storm, combined with winds, that occurred on Monday in the town of Tlapacoyan (Mexico) did not leave severe damages to banana crops. It is expected that with the arrival of Ernesto, which is forecast for next week, damages could be suffered. However, producers who are not insured, hardly recover their capital, since their window of opportunity already passed, reported the Manager of the agricultural insurance fund of the Gulf, Inocencio Ortiz Perez.
 
"We are taking steps in terms of the people who we will insure because this incident is already foreseen," he pointed out.
 
As for the rain on Sunday, he said that they are still waiting for the reports from the damaged municipalities in the highlands, which according to the amount they will get what was insured and damaged.
 
Tlapacoyan and Hueytamalco were the most affected municipalities in the previous contingency. This two municipalities were already assisted as it should be, however, according to Inocencio Ortiz Perez they are still waiting for reports from those who suffered damages. So far those who were affected have not reported to the insurance fund for the corresponding compensation.
