US: Northwest cherries sales increasing

Reports from the retail world are mixed to say the least. Retailers continue to heavily advertise Northwest cherries, and most report that sales volume is increasing with displays of larger row sizes. Big displays are easy to find, but so are higher-than-would-be-expected advertised prices.

Consumer response to quality cherries continues to be strong, which remains of utmost importance throughout the month of August as substitute items come into their peak seasons. Extreme heat and storms are expected to continue across the US, which will likely continue to impact consumer shopping trips as well. NWCG late season programs are in place across North America to continue to drive circular as well as in store promotions

Over the month of July, Northwest Cherries were the #1 Advertised Fruit for 3
weeks in a row, featuring in about 16,000 store ads. A large portion of all US
retailers. This week cherries just missed out on a 4th consecutive week by a difference of 230 stores. Northwest sweet cherries are still currently featured in over 13,600 store ads.

In North America alone, 219 retail groups have signed agreements to promote
Northwest Cherries in circulars, demos and/or special displays throughout their stores
for this 2012 season. Promotions and circular ads are scheduled to continue throughout the month of August. Aside from display contests, volume increase challenges, in-store product demonstrations and late summer/early fall in-store health publications, the NWCG has committed funding to these 219 retail groups for up to two August circular feature ads for Northwest cherries.
