Brazil will continue to be important supplier to the Netherlands

Bert van Gelder is responsible within CMR Holland for the import from Brazil. He has been discussing the role that the BRIC-country plays as a worldwide fruit supplier and specifically for the Dutch market.

He says that Brazil is a very important country in the worldwide export of fruit. "Brazil supplies a very diverse range of fruit and will continue to grow in importance for the future."

He says the growth of the economy in the country is not a problem for exports currently as demand is so great, however, he allows that it may become so in the future. "As the economy grows, so does the demand. There is enough strength in the country, but the covering of costs may prove difficult in the future."

He also says that the relationship Brazil has with the Netherlands has changed now. "Holland was a very important recipient of Brazilian goods, but this is different now, as Poland and Germany are supplied directly now."

He says there will be non radical shifts for the time being, in the type of produce Brazil offers, but says the supply will be adapted to meet worldwide demand.
