Sales of broccoli are doing quite well at the moment. This is according to broccoli grower Peter Verschuren from Raamsdonk. "We had a dramatic start to the season, but after that there was a shortage on the market and at the moment there is plenty of demand from the United Kingdom. The weather there is the same as here. except that there even more rain fell."

The mediation prices of broccoli are at the moment about one Euro and at the day trade the prices are still higher. According to Peter the weather should remain as it is for a while. "It is ideal broccoli weather, only a little less rain would be nice. Harvesting of broccoli is no problem, only when planting we would have to move from sand to clay soil and it is not possible to plant there now."
The broccoli grower expects the good broccoli prices to keep for a while. He has sufficient stock available himself. "Normally we plan for somewhat less broccoli in the summer, but for labour technical reasons and because prices were good last summer we have now planned a stable production and that is an advantage now."
From the last week in May to the middle of November inclusive Verschuren Broccoli have all accepted sizes of broccoli available, in total about 700 tons, that is about 130,000 packs being traded via The Greenery. "This year we built a new processing building. We had some over-capacity there and we now also pack part of the broccoli of Stan Hage and in this way we are able to help" Peter concludes.
