Italy: Coscia pear campaign starts at Parlapiano Fruit
"Coscia pears from Ribera are 15-20 days earlier than those from Bronte (Catania, Sicily)," says Paolo Parlapiano, marketing and sales manager at the company his father, Biagio, founded.
The product
Coscia pear is a variety of the common pear tree (Pyrus communis). It is small or medium and it has a teardrop shape. Its colour is a light green that becomes yellow when it is ripened. It is fairly sweet, firm, and has a pleasantly grainy texture.
Trading: from July to September
Trade starts in the middle of July and continues up to September. " The trend is positive and we have good expectations, so we are fairly optimistic," Parlapiano adds. Products are selected, processed and packed in the plant owned by the company.
