Peru: Very good season for Minneola Tangelo in Europe
The Minneola Tangelo campaign isgoing very well. "The season already started quite strong, with pricesslightly on the high side, but it's stabilising at the moment." What gaveLuis Espinoza some concern was the introduction of Spanish and South African fruitinto other European markets, such as the Dutch and the German, with very lowprices. Luis says that "at the supermarkets here in the Netherlands thereare really cheap Spanish Minneolas. For us it is quite difficult to competewith those prices, especially because of the proximity of Spain to the restof the European markets."
Regarding the previous campaign for Peruvian mangos, Luis said that it was a low average season, with climatological problems forcing Peru to come later into the market due to late harvests, which affected both producers and exporters. In Peru, this season is expected to be better than the last one.

Fruagro is a Peruvian firm devoted to the commercialization of various horticultural products, such as Hass avocados, citrus, green asparagus, "Cumbe" cherimoyas, and will also soon be exporting "Sutil" lemons and table grapes (Red Globe). For Fruagro the main objective is to export Peruvian fruit that always meets the market's demands regarding high quality and that receives various international certifications, such as EurepGap, Global Gap, USDA, among others which are being increasingly demanded by customers all over the world.
Fruagro's main markets are Europe and the US. Luis Espinoza explains that it is a little harder to ship products such as Hass avocados to the US market due to Mexico's competition. The door to the North American market has only recently opened for Peruvian Hass avocados. Luis comments that "we are feeling very enthusiastic and confident with the quality of Peruvian avocados. We hope the next season to be quite interesting." Fruagro expects to make a much bigger entrance into the European market, especially in Austria and Germany, where they aspire to have a big presence.
