US (WA): Apricot production up

After a season last year in which apricot production was significantly lower than the 2010 season, apricot production in Washington is predicted to be higher in 2012.

According to estimates by the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agriculture Statistics Service, projected production of apricots for the 2012 season is 7,500 tons. That's almost twice as much as 2011's production, which was 3,900 tons.

Last year's production was affected by a bad pollination period. As a result, it was 2,000 tons lower than 2010's total of 5,900 tons.
