Switzerland: Decreasing turnover for tomatoes and carrots

Figures from the Swiss Bureau for Agriculture show that the turnover figures for tomatoes and carrots in 2011 have decreased in almost all sales segments compared to the year before, reports the German website Gabot.de.

The retailers, specialists and chain stores all had lower turnover figures for carrots in 2011. This despite the sales numbers barely changing between 2010 and 2011. The turnover of carrots decreased by 7% (around 6 million Swiss francs). Only the discounters managed to make an increase in turnover of three percent.

Then there's the tomato situation: in 2011, 8% (3,555 tonnes) more tomatoes were sold than in 2010. But despite this the turnover here also decreased by 7%, around 15 million Swiss franc. Once again, only the discounters had an increase in turnover. Like the carrots, this was three percent.
