Chile: New Technologies for blueberry production

One of the main objectives of the project, that is being carried out by Ciren (Resource Information Centre Natural) in conjunction with the University of Talca, associated with Fedefruta and in which producers of the company have an active role, is to generate digital media to improve competitiveness in the production of blueberries in the region of Maule, Chile.

The results of this project will allow the building of models for decision making, predicting yields, optimizing the management of fertilization and irrigation for blueberry production, a land information system for the exact location of producers, generate potential yield maps, get to know the processing and marketing infrastructure and have a production manual with specific recommendations by zones according to climate, soil, variety and also a modern platform computer. The project will end in May 2014.

For Copefrut, the participation of producers in such projects is very important and encourages their development. "Technological development and innovation are key elements that determine and impact significantly the growth and sustainability of the fruit business. Therefore, our company has three pillars at this stage of strengthening of export management, working with new markets, strengthen the partnership with producers and develop breakthroughs in technologies," says Paul Godoy, Producers´Manager.
