Chile: Table grapes, new varieties and stone fruit performance, key issues at Rancagua meeting

The opportunity was also taken to come up with an agreement to strengthen the presence of the producers and support the unions standing behind them.

Some of the key issues at the Regional Meeting of Fruit Producers in Rancagua, Chile included a review of the current table grape and stone fruit export season and the call for an agreement destined to strengthen the presence of the producers and back union actions. The event was organized on Thursday 5th July by FEDEFRUTA, along with the Association of Fruit Producers of the Sixth Region (FRUSEXTA) and with support from ProChile.

At the event, the president of the Fruit Producers Union, Cristián Allendes, talked about performance results of the current season, stressing the probability of small drops in production this year compared to the previous season, which could be linked, as he pointed out, to lower production volumes of table grapes and apples.

Higher profits would, in any case, compensate for all this, as they are expected to reach 3,774 million US dollars, which represents a 2.8% increase compared to last year.
