Mexico: Will continue to defend tomato dumping

After the US Government criticized tomato producers in Mexico, accusing them of selling their product at low prices, the president of "Sistema Producto Tomate" said that they will continue to defend themselves through legal channels to prevent dumping.

Manuel Antonio Cázares Castro, president of "Sistema Producto Tomate", mentioned that the state of Florida still pursues an anti-dumping lawsuit against Mexican tomatoes imported apparently at low prices.

Cázares Castro pointed out that recently there was a meeting in Sinaloa with representatives of 16 States who defend tomato crops with support from the Government.

The president of the "Sonora State Association of Producers of Protected Agricultural Products" ascertained that those who really sell tomatoes at lower prices are the brokers and not the Mexican producers.

Due to this, they will continue to defend Mexican produce through legal channels. It should be pointed out that Florida has held a dispute against the Mexican tomato industry since 1996, accusing them of selling under 188.5%.

Cázares Castro noted that Sinaloa State, with help from the Government, leads the way in the legal battle against the anti-dumping lawsuit which Florida wants to enforce on the producers.
